BECE Mathematics Syllabus

The BECE Mathematics syllabus is based on the Junior Secondary School Mathematics curriculum and covers core areas such as Number and Numeration, Basic Operations, Algebraic Processes, Geometry and Measurement, and Everyday Statistics. It is designed to develop students’ computational ability, logical reasoning, problem-solving skills, and practical application of mathematics in everyday life.

Geometry and Measurement Plane Shapes Perimeter and Area of Plane Figures Similar Shapes and Scale Factor Three-Dimensional Figures Compound Measures Construction Angles and Angle Properties Bearing and Distance Trigonometry Shapes, properties of figures, constructions, area, perimeter, volume, compound measures such as speed, rate, and time, angle relationships, bearings, and introductory trigonometric ratios.

Algebraic Processes Use of Symbols and Open Sentences Algebraic Expressions Like and Unlike Terms Simplification of Algebraic Expressions Simple Equations Equations Involving Fractions Linear Inequalities Graphs of Linear Equations Factorisation Simultaneous Linear Equations Use of letters and symbols, forming and simplifying expressions, solving equations and inequalities, graphing, and solving simultaneous equations.
5. Everyday Statistics Need for Statistics Data Collection Data Presentation Frequency Tables, Charts and Pie Charts Probability Measures of Central Tendency Measures of Dispersion Collecting, organising, presenting, and interpreting data, together with probability, mean, median, mode, and range.
