(a) On the graph paper provided on page 6, draw an annotated cross profile along the line marked A-B using a vertical scale of 1cm to 200ft. [11 marks]

(b) In this booklet, describe four characteristics of the road network in the mapped area [8 marks]

Answer:

The characteristics of the road network in the mapped area

  • The area is well connected by class 2 and class 3 roads as well as foot footpaths.
  • Each settlement is connected by either class 2 or class 3 roads as well as foot pathways.
  • From the eastern part of the map major settlements are linked up by the class 2 roads and class 3 roads. For instance, New Worobon and Adukuram
  • There are some nodal settlements in the mapped area. For example, New Worobon, Nkoloveram, Asuogya, Mioso.
  • The roads are motorable
  • Class 2 roads dominate other roads in the mapped area.

(c) With evidence from the map, give three reasons for which  NEW WOROBON is the major settlement in the mapped area.   [6 marks]

Answer:

With evidence from the map, the following reasons make NEW WOROBON a major settlement in the mapped area;

  • It is useful for water transportation with the nearness to Lake Volta.
  • It can receive goods and services from neighbouring settlements by water vehicles
  • It is a nodal settlement with a good road network of both class 2 and class 3 roads
  • It serves as a commercial area with the presence of market
  • It provides educational function with the presence of schools
  • It performs a religious function with the presence of a church
  • Fishing activities can be undertaken by the people living there with the presence of Lake Volta and river Oworobon
  • It is of both nucleated and linear settlement
  • It is a major settlement to the settlements because other settlements around it act as satellite settlements to it.
