Topic Content:

  • Introduction
  • The Five Different Information Ages

Before the invention of computers, counting figures and other simple arithmetic operations posed serious challenges to mankind. Counting was done using different parts of the body, such as fingers and toes, objects like stones, pebbles, and sticks, and drawing lines of marks on surfaces.

Technology can therefore be described as the use of materials, tools, techniques, art, craft, or skills to make life easier or more pleasant and make work more productive.

Information Technology in itself can be described as any technology invented that helps to produce, manipulate, store and communicate information.

From the early ages to the present time, several technologies have been developed, to help in the development of the various information ages. They are as follows:

The Five Different Information Ages:

  • The Stone Age.
  • The Iron Age.
  • The Middle Ages.
  • The Industrial Age.
  • The Electronic Age.
