Crops are classified based on the type of feed nutrients they supply, to the bodies of man and animals. Crops are grouped into the following;

As Source of Carbohydrates: The natural sources of carbohydrates include maize, rice, millet, sorghum root, and tubers. Carbohydrates supply energy, fattening of animals, or building of fat.

As a Source of Fats and Oil: These sources of nutrients are important, in an animal’s diet, because they supply energy and help in regulating the temperature of the animals. They are found in avocados, some nuts (almonds, pistachios, cashews, pecans, and hazelnuts), corn, soybean, and cottonseed.

As a Source of Mineral Salt: Mineral salts supply proper nutrients to the animals, for teeth, bone, eggshell formation, the formation of hemoglobin, and for normal functioning of the thyroid gland. They include fruits, vegetables, and nuts.

As a Source of Vitamins: Vitamins help a normal growth of an animal, also it helps the animals to be resistant to diseases, and to also assist in the basic metabolism. They can be found in fruits, vegetables, seeds, and nuts.
