The following are the damages caused by insect pests;

(i) Piercing and sucking insect pests attack the plant and pierce it, allowing the entry of disease organisms such as viruses.

(ii) Sap-sucking insect pests often introduce fungal disease to plants on which they feed. The most common sap-sucking insects are capsids e.g. cocoa bark sucker, the cotton stainer, aphids, mealybugs, scale insects, and whiteflies.
