- Nigerian Surveillance Satellites
The Nigeria Sat-1 was the first Nigerian satellite. The satellite was launched by Cosmos – 3M rocket from the Russian Plesetsk space part on 27th September 2003. Nigeria Sat-1 was part of the World Wide Disaster Monitoring Constellation System.
The primary objectives of Nigeria Sat-1 were to:
- give early warning signals of environmental disasters
- help detect and control desertification in the northern part of Nigeria
