  • Uses of Building Materials

1. Cement:

Cement is a very important building material in construction that is mixed with water, sand and gravel to make concrete. It is a binding agent that sets, hardens, and adheres (sticks) to other materials to bind them together.

Cement is used as a binding agent for sand, aggregates, bricks, blocks, and stones.

2. Aggregate:

These are crushed granite, gravel, and sand. They are used as base materials in foundations, roads and railways. They are classed as either coarse (stones), medium or fine (sand) types. Concrete is the combination of cement and aggregate.
