The materials needed to begin drawing are simple: a tool to make a mark and a sheet of paper on which to make it.
Drawing materials are items that get consumed with use. They get exhausted with time.
This means that the difference between drawing instruments and drawing materials is that while drawing instruments do not get consumed, as one uses them, drawing materials get used up when drawing.
But we also know that pencils must be sharpened and mistakes made during technical drawing, therefore materials like sharpeners, erasers and brushes are also important in the drawing process. These materials may now be consumed as quickly as pencils and papers but are also referred to as drawing materials.
