There are two types of invoices:

1. Sales Invoice:  

This is a document sent to a customer with a list of products or services they have bought and their prices, any sales tax, the total amount and the date before which the customer must pay.

2. Purchases Invoice:

This is a commercial document or bill presented to a buyer by a seller or service provider for payment within a stated time frame that indicates what has been purchased, what amount and at what price.  A purchase invoice can be used to prove that something was bought and the amount paid.
