What is Computer Memory?
Computer memory is the place where the computer stores all the data and instructions it uses. The memory of the Computer actually refers to the capacity, volume, or site of data and information that the computer can store. This means that the computer is capable of having more graphics and animations.
Categories of Computer Memory:
There are two categories of computer memory.
These are;
1. The Primary Memory.
2. The Secondary Memory.
- Primary Memory can also be called Main Memory or Internal Memory.
- Secondary Memory can be called Auxiliary Memory or External Memory.

Primary Memory / Main Memory or Internal Memory:
The main memory is used to hold the instructions and information, which are used by the computer at any time. When we type a set of instructions on the keyboard of a computer, the instructions are first put into the Main memory. Then, when we tell the computer to obey some instructions, they are taken one after the other and put into the processor.
Types of Main Memory:
There are two types of main memory:
- The Random Access Memory (RAM)
- The Read-Only Memory (ROM)
