There are so many examples of Computer Software but all of them are grouped into two:
1. System Software.
2. Application Software.
What is System Software?
A System Software is a set of instructions, given to the computer to guide it in performing tasks, that are general in nature, such as copying files, sorting files, deleting files, etc.
It controls the operations of the computer and its peripherals.
What is Application Software?
Application software is a list of instructions, given to the computer to guide it in carrying out tasks, that are specific in nature. It is designed to solve a particular problem of the end-user of the computer.
Examples of Application Software:
Examples of application software are:
- Word processing software
- Database management software
- Spreadsheet software
- Graphics software, etc.
Major examples of application software are:
- Microsoft-Word
- Microsoft-Excel
- CorelDraw
- Microsoft-Access
- Microsoft-PowerPoint, etc.
Application software is a program, meant to tackle peculiar problems in certain application areas, hence, the reason for calling them application software.
They are designed with the participation of users. For example, many users wanted to use the computer to type their letters, then, word processing software was produced.
Similarly, some people wanted to use the computer to calculate and solve some mathematical problems, then, spreadsheet software was produced. Some companies or organizations use the computer to calculate payroll. Some banks use the computer for accounting systems, etc.
Summary:
Computer Software is grouped into System and Application Software.
