  • Hexadecimal Numbers to Decimal Numbers Conversion

To convert hexadecimal numbers into a decimal number system, multiply each digit with the powers of 16 starting from units place of the number.

This is similar to the method we used in converting from binary to decimal numbers.

Worked Example 1:

Convert 121416 to decimal.

Solution

Step 1:

Then write down the base raised to the place value.

Place value163 162161160
Binary Number1214

Start from the last digit of the number to convert 1214. Note that the power of zero of any number is always 1.

Step 2:

Multiply each digit by its base raised to the corresponding place value and add.
