ICT and the Society

ICT has greatly improved our way of life and made life easy. No organization can do without information technology. Some of the uses of ICT in everyday life include:

1. In Education: ICT is used to aid students in learning through Computer Assisted Instructions (CAI), Computer Assisted Lessons (CAL)

With ICT, students and teachers can search for knowledge and educative materials.

Computers are used to keep records of students and teachers. It is also used to check results.

2. Engineering: ICT is used by engineers, architects, and manufacturers to draw, design, and model. For example, CAD, CAM, and CAE are used to analyze engineering designs to test whether the design will work or not when built.

3. In Banking: ICT is used to record sales, bar code, check balance, withdraw, and deposit money as in ATM.

4. In Security: ICT is used for security purposes such as security cameras placed in banks, controlling traffic, reading fingerprints, biometrics, etc.

5. In Entertainment: ICT is used to play music, watch films, make movies and animations. Because of ICT, we can Play games on consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox, etc.

6. In Hospitals: ICT can be used to research and store information such as patients’ records, diagnoses, symptoms and treatments, and telemedicine.

7. Artificial Intelligence: Computers are used to control machines called Robots, to do dangerous and repetitive tasks in industries. For example, in a car, train, ship, spaceship, in construction, etc.

8. At Home: ICT is used at home to type documents, play games, and do calculations.

9. In Research Centers: ICT is used in research centres for quick and accurate data analysis.

10. In Supermarkets: In Shoprite and other big pharmaceutical companies, ICT is used to record sales, especially in Bar code reading.

11. Social Networking: ICT has made it possible to stay connected with friends, family, colleagues, or customers using internet-based social media sites.
