- Why are Word Processors Preferred to Typewriters
Word processors are preferred over typewriters for the following reasons:
(1) Using a word processor allows you to enter text on the page shown on the computer screen and make changes to the text without having to retype the entire document from scratch.
(2) You can also save the document on a disk so that it can be retrieved and worked on at a later date.
(3) You can also do complex formatting using a word processor so that your document can look very professional.
(4) It allows you to have many original copies.
(5) It can be used for sending similar letters to several addresses by typing just a single letter for all.
(6) It provides a spell-check facility.
(7) You can insert pictures and graphics with a word processor.
(8) You can create tables and edit them using a word processor.
(9) Using a word processor allows you to type using different fonts and font sizes.
You cannot achieve any of these using a typewriter. Typewriting machines type letters on paper and use carbon paper to produce several copies, though the electric typewriters have improved on that. Early mechanical typewriters generally used a single fixed font and font size; some later models, particularly electric typewriters, offered the ability to swap fonts and sometimes change font sizes.
