Poetry is a literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm.

Types of Poems

Ballad: It is a poem written to express the heroic past of a village or a community.

Narrative Poem: It is a story told in verse form. Like a novel or a short story, a narrative poem has a plot, characters, and setting.

Lyric: A lyric is a short poem that expresses the poet’s thought and feelings and meant to be sang to the music lyre.

Epic: It is long narrative poem that dwells on the adventures and achievement of one or more great heroes.

Lullaby: It is a song specially created to appease a weeping child or rock a baby to sleep.

Sonnet: It is a poem of fourteen lines.

Dirge: It is a funeral song, poem, expressing grief or mourning.
