The family is the smallest social unit of people in a community or societyThe term society is derived from the Latin word 'socius' meaning friendship or companionship. Society is a community, nation or group of people who share the same traditions, institutions, rules and... More. The family consists of the father, mother, and children. So everybody comes from a family.
The father and mother are known as parents. The family that consists of the father, mother and their children is referred to as a nuclear family.
An extended family is a family that extends beyond the nuclear family and includes aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins or other relatives, all living nearby or in the same household.
Family Vocabulary:
a. Family: a group of related people.
b. Father: a male parent.
c. Mother: a female parent.
d. Children: off-spring of the father and mother
e. Parent: a person who has a child/children.
f. Nuclear family: a family group.
g. Aunt: The sister of your father or mother. Also, the wife of your uncle.
h. Uncle: The brother of your father or mother. Also, the husband of your aunt.
i. Cousin: A child of your uncle or aunt.
j. Relative or Relation: A person connected by blood or marriage.
k. Sibling: A sibling is your brother or sister.
