Behaviour of Students
The behaviour of some students nowadays gives me a lot of concern about their future. I cannot just understand why they choose to misbehave. These are students who should face their studies so that they can do very well in their examinations. I’m quite disturbed and surprised by the recent incident in which some students decided to manhandle their teacher who loved them so much.
It was their Mathematics teacher, Mr Adamson that was involved. He was a teacher who laboured so hard to see that ‘his brothers and sisters’ (as he usually called the students) loved Mathematics. Before he got to the school, the students in his class feared Mathematics. Within a short time, the students have developed a keen interest in the subjects, He used the play-way method to teach the students The result was wonderful. In this way, Mr. Adamson became quite popular with his students. Indeed other teachers began to envy him. Mr. Adamson loved his students so much that he would always defend them among his colleagues.
Then it happened. One Monday morning, Mr. Adamson was on his way to school when some students laid an ambush for him. They arrested him and took him to a place they call ‘Aso Rock’. They tortured him and wanted him not to touch a particular girl in their class again.
Mr. Adamson had scolded Aminat for not doing her Mathematics assignment. That was his offence. The girl happened to be the girlfriend of one of the popular boys in the class. The boy, therefore, felt offended by the scolding. So, he gathered some boys to ‘deal’ with the teacher.
The Principal of the school got to know about the situation and called a staff meeting. At the meeting, some of the teachers made a jest of Mr. Adamson. The staff examined the situation and many of them wanted the boys that were involved to be dismissed. However, Mr. Adamson spent much time pleading with his colleagues that the boys be pardoned and allowed to continue with their education. He told them that time and God will deal with the boys. He said we live in an African The term society is derived from the Latin word 'socius' meaning friendship or companionship. Society is a community, nation or group of people who share the same traditions, institutions, rules and... More where we respect our elders and he had not come across a child who manhandled his elders and made it in life.
How does a teacher who spent his time and energy to make students excel in his subject feel when he is treated in this way by the same students he referred to as his brothers and sisters?
