What is a Myth?
A Myth is a kind of oral narrative that explains matters that concern the beliefs, certain phenomena in human life, or why things are the way they are. It gives truthful accounts of events that happened in the past.
Myth, therefore, provides an explanation for different natural things in life. For instance, why do we have day and night, why do men not bear children like women? Why are there stars in the sky?
Features of Myths:
1. A Myth is a story that explains the natural world and how it came to be.
2. It involves mystery (the unknown).
3. A Myth seeks to explain our existence and answer questions like “Who are We?” “Why are we Here?”
4. Characters are often non-humans. For example: goddess, supernatural beings.
What is a Legend?
A legend is a narrative story about human beings or non-human objects such as plants, or hills which one time or another played significant roles in human lives.
