What is a Simile?

A simile is an indirect comparison between two dissimilar things using “as” and “like”.

Examples:

  • Ada talks like a parrot.
  • Uche ate her food like a wolf.
  • He crawled like a snake. 
  • Timothy is as cunning as a fox.
  • He is as dirty as a pig.
  • Ndubisi is like a mad dog.
  • She is as beautiful as her mother.
  • Ariya runs like an antelope.

What is a Metaphor?

Metaphor implies the comparison of two things in a direct manner.

Examples are:

  • Bola has a heart of stone.
  • Ada is a parrot.
  • He is a pig
  • You are the salt of life.
  • She is a dove

Evaluation:

Write down ten examples of simile and metaphor.
