- Meaning of Stress
Stress is a way of pronouncing a syllable in a louder or more forceful way than others in a word. A syllable is any one of the parts into which a word is divided when pronounced. Examples: re’bel, ab’sent
Stress Pattern:
Monosyllable Word: These are words with one syllable word(s) which may not be stressed.
Examples: down, seat, joy.
Two-syllable Words: Some words with two syllables are stressed on the first syllable.
