In number system:
- It is very important to have a good knowledge of how to convert numbers from one base to another base.
- Here, we will learn how to convert any given number from base 10 to base 2.
Worked Example 3.2.1:
Convert 55ten to base two
Solution
Using repeated division method.
To convert from base ten to base two:
1. Divide the given base ten i.e. 55ten repeatedly by 2 (the base number we are converting to)
2. Continue dividing until zero is obtained, writing down the remainder at every stage.
3. The answer is the Remainder (R) read upwards (i.e. from bottom to top).

Answer: 55ten = 110111two
Worked Example 3.2.2:
Convert 184ten to base 2.
Solution

Answer: 184ten = 10111000two
