1. Ace: a serve which lands in the opponent’s court without being touched by opposing players, or is touched, but unable to be kept in play.
2. Out: occurs when the ball falls outside the boundary lines of the court.Â
3. Rotation: is the change of position or movement of the player.Â
4. Duece: is a tie.
5. Double Contact or Double Hit: is when a volleyball player touches the ball more than once with any part of his/her body.
6. Set Point: is the remaining point to win a set.Â
7. Let: is used when there is an obstruction during the game.
8. Net Service: is when a served ball touches the net.Â
9. Net: occurs when a player touches the net during play.Â
10. Spike: A very forceful attacking shot where the ball is hit down across the net.Â
11. Double Foul: is when two players touch the net at the same time.Â
12. Carrying: is pronounced if a ball rests for a short time on one’s side when it is alive.Â
13. Time-out: is a period of short rest or substitution or discussion on the progress of the team.Â
14. Dead ball:Â
The ball is “dead” when:
- the ball is not in play
- the ball touches the ground
- the ball is burst
15. Good ball:Â
The ball is “good” when:
- the ball lands directly on the line.
- the ball crosses to the opponent’s court and they fail to return it.
16. Side-out: is a term when a serving team loses a service or rally.Â
