Two Referees:
In volleyball, two referees are usually part of the officiating team for a volleyball game:
First (or Main) Referee:

1. Inspects equipment and identifies ground rules.
2. Directs informative captain meeting.
3. Briefs officiating team – and holds authority over all members of the officiating crew.
4. Makes the final decision.
5. Starts and ends the game.
6. Penalizes bad behaviour of any player.
7. Signifies, using hands, the offence committed by the players.

8. Controls and gives duties to other officials.
Second Referee / Umpire:
1. Assists the first referee throughout the match.
2. Draws the referee’s attention to the unsportsmanlike play.
3. Signs the score sheet.
4. Keeps a check on all time-outs and authorizes substitution.
5. Ensures the game ball is ready.
6. Times the warm-up.
7. Verifies line-up and player position on the court.
8. Collects line-up sheets on time.
9. Informs the scorekeeper of coin flip results.
The Scorer:

1. Takes note of the score.
2. Takes note of all time-outs and substitutions.
3. Ensures that the rotation order is maintained.
4. Records, on the score sheet, the position of the team scoring first.
5. Records any sanctions.
6. Responsible for filling out pre-matches, leading information, recording substitution points and time-outs.
7. Before the match, notes the starting lineup of each team, and notifies the referees.
Libero Tracker:

1. Tracks each team’s libero on the libero tracking sheet.
2. Tracks each team’s lineup throughout the match.
Line Judges:

1. Stands at the corners of the court.
2. Watches the lines to indicate whether the ball is in or out of play.
