Safety can be defined as the state of being safe; freedom from the occurrence or risk of injury, danger, or loss.

Environmental safety is the practice of policies and procedures that ensure that a surrounding environment, including the home, school, workplaces, laboratories or facilities, is free of dangers that could cause harm to a person in that particular environment, therefore, making sure it is safe for us to live in.

Reasons for Safety in Our Environment:

  • The safer an environment is, the more productive it will be. Employees working in a safe environment will most likely be more productive compared to those in less safe environments.
  • A safe environment is a hazard and accident-free environment. There will be fewer injuries in the home, school and workplaces.
  • Better safety equates to better health. Health-related risks will be significantly reduced.
  • When measures are put in place to make the environment safe it will, in turn, preserve the natural beauty of the environment, for the present and future generations.

The need for safety should not be taken for granted as it would reduce to a large extent the accident rates at home, school and the workplace.
