Topic Content:

  • Uses of Forest Resources

(i) Protective Uses: Forests serve as windbreakers. Trees in a forest act as a barrier and block the wind with their leaves.

Windbreaks are barriers of trees or shrubs that slow the movement of wind at crop/soil level and divert the force of the wind to higher altitudes.

Windbreaks help protect the soil from erosion and also provide shelter to livestock, grazing lands, and farms.

(ii) Provision of Food for Man: Bushmeat is a source of protein for consumers. Forest also provides fruits and vegetables to man.
