What are Ceramic Materials?

Ceramics are non-metallic solids made by the action of heat on clay. The temperature needed to transform soft clay into hard ceramic is extremely high.

They are hard, brittle, heat-resistant, and corrosion-resistant materials.

Most building household items are made from ceramics. These include:

  • Bricks.
  • Blocks.
  • Glass windows.
  • Plaster of Paris (which is used medically for holding broken bones)
  • Pottery – This is the art of using clay to make various objects (clay pots)

  • Bottles.
  • Tiles.
  • Waterpots.
  • Cooking pots.
  • Serving plates etc.
