Metal Lathe Machine

Lathes can be used to produce parts that are ferrous, non-ferrous metals, plastics, and wood. This machine removes metals by the use of a rigidly controlled hard steel cutting tool.

Lathe-Machine in Operation

Metalworking lathes function by rotating the metal workpiece, and the cutting tool then slowly subtracting material from the workpiece’s outer surface. The purpose of this operation is to reduce the size of the workpiece to the required dimensions.

Uses of a Lathe Machine:

A lathe machine or centre lathe is an all-purpose machine, used for the following operations:

  • generating cylindrical, flat, and conical surfaces
  • cutting holes in geometrical shapes
  • cutting threads on screws, bolts, and nuts
  • reducing the size of geometrical shapes
  • milling, turning, shaping, and planing.

Components of a Lathe Machine:

The major components of lathe machines are:
