Roles of Customs and Excise in Foreign Trade

The Nigeria Customs Service is an agency of the Federal Government, charged with the responsibilities of customs and excise in Nigeria.

Below are some functions of customs and excise in Nigeria, they look to:

1. Prevent the smuggling of goods.

2. Check the importation of prohibited goods.

3. Help the government to collect customs duties.

4. Help the government collect excise duties on locally produced goods.

5. Help the government regulate goods imported and exported.

6. Issue licenses for the manufacture and sale of certain goods in the country.
