The channels or chain of distribution simply is the route or the stage through which the goods pass, before getting to the consumers. Some of these channels are:

1. Producer   ->   Wholesaler -> Retailer  ->   Consumer.

2. Producer    ->    Wholesaler -> Consumer.

3. Producer    -> Retailer  ->  Consumer.

4. Producer -> Consumer.

5. Producer   ->    Agent ->  Wholesaler ->  Retailer  ->  Consumer.

6. Producer    ->   Agent    ->   Wholesaler  ->   Consumer.

7. Producer     ->   Agent    ->    Retailer ->  Consumer.

The agent, wholesaler, and retailer are called middlemen because they are the go-betweens, for the producer and the consumer, in the channels of distribution of goods.
