Jesus Ascends into Heaven (Mark 16: 19-20, Luke 24: 50-53)

To ascend is to go high up. This implies that the ascension of Jesus refers to his going up to heaven.

The ascension of Jesus Christ took place after he had given the Great Commission in Galilee. He met with his disciples at Jerusalem, even as far as Bethany. He lifted up his hand and blessed them; behold, he was carried up into heaven.

The disciples returned to Jerusalem with great joy and were continually in the temple blessing God.

This explains that Jesus had finished with his work on earth. He will come back with the Holy Spirit who will help the disciples to do their work, overcome evil influences and finally gain eternal life.
