The Crucifixion (Matthew 27:32-44)
After being sentenced by Pilate, Jesus was taken from praetorian to a place outside the city, called Golgatha, for crucifixion.
On their way, they met a certain man from Cyrene, named Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, He was compelled to bear the cross of Jesus. When the soldiers brought Jesus to Golgotha, which is translated as “Place of a Skull”, they gave him wine mixed with gall to drink, but he refused to drink it. Also, they divided his garments in fulfilment of the scripture.
However, in the third hour, the soldiers nailed Jesus on the cross. An inscription of his accusation was written above His head “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS”.
Two robbers were crucified, one on His right and the other on His left, This was in fulfilment of the scriptures: And He was numbered among the transgressors.
While Jesus was hanged on the cross, three groups of people mocked him namely;
1. The passers-by.
2. The chief priest and scribes.
3. One of the robbers.
