In the courtyard, Peter denied knowing Jesus Christ because he feared what the people around him would do if he told them the truth. He thought he might be arrested and killed, similar to what they were about to do to Jesus Christ, so he lied to them.
Peter’s situation is not abnormal, as Christians today we will also experience situations that may cause us to want to deny Jesus Christ or even our neighbour.
The following are examples of situations that can lead to a Christian’s denial of Christ and his/her neighbours:
1. Failure to defend the Christian faith when attacked by others: If we find ourselves in a situation where people are attacking the Christian religion. We may decide not to speak up and defend our Christian faith because we feel uncomfortable and do not want to stand out.
