Federation as a system of government has many distinctive characteristics which include;
1. Constitutional Division of Power:
This is a notable feature in a federal system.
In this system, power is constitutionally shared between the central authority and other subordinate units, for example, states and local governments.
Power is divided into three. They are:
exclusive , concurrent , and residual
