Meaning of IT

IT stands for “information technology” and is the means of using computer systems and some other gadgets in transmitting and receiving information within seconds.

It is used today by the modern world to make activities easier and more productive.

The major components of IT include

  • The people.
  • The technology.
  • The product.

The invention of computers has turned the world into a global village. It is the bringing together of information resources and communications devices to perform information activities.

The term “global village” means all parts of the world as they are being brought together by the internet and other electronic communication interconnections.

What is ICT?

ICT is an acronym that stands for “Information and Communications Technology” 

Information: Information refers to knowledge obtained from reading, investigating, study and research.

Communication: means of sending or receiving information.

Technology: Machinery and equipment developed from the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes, especially in industry.

ICT can therefore be defined as a “diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information. They are the technologies that provide access to information through telecommunication.

With the use of ICT, the whole world has been reduced to a global village. Information can be transmitted from one place to the other with the use of ICT.

For example, sending and receiving email messages, making phone calls, audio and video conferencing, sending and receiving fax messages, chatting, and instant messaging, social networking services, etc.

Social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram focus on building social relations among people who share interests and/or activities. It lets people from around the world maintain contact and communicate regularly.

Any time we mention ICT, we refer to the following: computer, GSM, cellular networks, satellite communication, TV, internet, telephone, etc.
