Topic Content:
- Converting Percentages to Decimals
To convert a percentage to decimal, divide the decimal number by 100.
Worked Example 9.4.1:
Change the following percentage to decimals.
a. 3.7%
b. \(\scriptsize 25 \frac{1}{2} \%\)
c. 67.8%
Solution
a. 3.7% = \( \frac{3.7}{100}\\ = \scriptsize 0.037 \)
b. \(\scriptsize 25 \frac{1}{2} \%\) = \( \frac{25 \frac{1}{2}}{100} \\ = \large \frac{\frac{51}{2}}{\frac{100}{1}} \\ = \frac{51}{2} \: \times \: \frac{1}{100} \\ = \frac{51}{200} \\= \scriptsize 0.255 \)
Or \(\scriptsize 25 \frac{1}{2} \%\) = \(\frac{25 \frac{1}{2}}{100} \\= \frac{25 .5}{100}\\ = \scriptsize 0.255 \)
c. 67.8% = \( \frac{67.8}{100} \\ = \scriptsize 0.678\)
