- Equations Containing Brackets
To solve equations with brackets:
(i) Remove or expand the brackets
(ii) Collect letters on one side and numbers on the other side
(iii) Solve the equation as usual
Example 6.2.1:
Solve the following equations:
a. 2(5x – 1) = 22
b. 2(x – 2) = 4x – 5
c. 5(k – 3) + 2(k – 4) = 19
Solution
a. 2(5x – 1) = 22
Remove brackets
2(5x) + 2(-1) = 22
