1. In compass bearing, angles are measured from North or South depending on which one is nearer.
2. The angle between North and East is 90º, East and South is 90º South and West is 90º, and West and North is 90º.
3. The angle between major cardinal directions: North (N), South (S), West (W), and East (E). and other minor directions: i.e. North-East (NE), North-West (NW), South-East (SE), and South-West (SW) is 45°

For example: In the diagram below, find the compass bearing from point O to point B.

Step 1: Determine whether point B is closer to the North or South

Question: Is the point B closer to the North or South?

Answer: Measuring from O, point B is closer to the South.
