What is a Water Accident?

A water accident is any unfortunate and unforeseen occurrence that takes place in or around water.

Examples of water accidents are:- 

a. An individual drowning.
b. A passenger falling off the vessel.
c. A vessel capsizing or flooding.
d. Two vessels colliding.

Causes of Water Accidents:

1. Poor weather conditions.

2. Reckless driving.

3. Overloading the boat.

4. Distracted boat driver.

5. Mechanical failure due to equipment malfunction.

6. Driving under the influence of alcohol.

7. Violation of navigational rules.

8. Improper lookouts for hazards.

9. Excessive speed in driving.

10. Inexperienced boat driving.

Prevention of Water Accidents:

1. Observation of boating laws and safety rules.

2. Checking weather reports before driving.

3. Operating vessels responsibly.

4. Enlightenment on safety tips for the passengers.

5. Ensuring that the vessel is suited to go out on the water.

6. Valuable information and resources on accident prevention should be offered to the boaters by the government.

7. A vessel driver should be knowledgeable of vessel law.

8. Training and education of the vessel drivers on how to keep themselves and the passengers safe.

9. Proper maintenance of the vessels.

10. The boat should be properly equipped with fagging equipment.
