1.  Social / Ballroom Dance: 

Ballroom dance is a traditional partnered dance that is done by couples in an embrace of a closed dance position. Examples are; Waltz, Tango, Swing, Salsa, etc.

2. Folk / Traditional / Pre-colonial Dance: 

Folk dance is a variety of dances that reflect a particular culture. Folk dance is often performed at social events. Examples are; Bata dance, Koroso, Atilogwu dance, Masquerade dance, and Maiden dance (i.e. to attract a husband). 

i. Bata Dance:

This is a traditional cultural dance of the Yoruba tribe of the Southwest of Nigeria. It is associated with Sango, the “Yoruba god of thunder and lightning” who was said to be athletic during his days. This dance is for both males and females.

Characteristics of the dance include the twisting of the waist, bent knees, flat feet, tilting of the trunk, acrobatic steps, and expressive movements, all in synchronization with beats from the Bata drum.

ii. Ekombi Dance:
