- Nature of Asthma
- Common Symptoms of Asthma
- Treatment/Management of Asthma
Nature of Asthma:
Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways that carry air to and from the lungs. Inflammation causes the airway to become narrower, and less air can pass through them, both to and from the lungs.
Asthma is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors such as allergies, colds, and stress. People who suffer from this chronic condition are said to be asthmatic.
A person with asthma can live a normal and active life with good treatment and management.
Common Symptoms of Asthma:
- Coughing
- Chest tightness
- Shortage of breath
- Wheezing ( a hissing sound while breathing)
Treatment/Management of Asthma:
The most common treatment is to use an inhaler, which delivers medication directly to the lungs. An asthmatic patient will usually have to be regularly monitored by a doctor or asthma nurse.
