a. Sedative drugs: These are sleep-inducing drugs. They are drugs that make people sleep when taken. e.g. (piriton, opium).

b. Stimulants: These are drugs that temporarily make the mind and body active. When taken in excess, the activities of the body will work abnormally. e.g cocaine, tobacco, amphetamines, marijuana, cough syrup, tramadol, etc.

c. Tranquilizers: These are drugs taken to relieve anxiety and emotional tension. It also induces sleep. Examples of tranquillizers are diazepam (valium), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), alprazolam (Xanax), etc.

d. Hallucinogen: This drug makes one imagine unreal things. It makes unreal things sound and seem real. e.g. marijuana, mescaline, heroin, etc.
