i. Illiteracy:  Due to some people’s inability to neither read nor write, as well as interpret the dosage of drugs, they end up abusing such drugs by either overdosing, underdosing, or even taking expired drugs.

ii. Emotional Problems and Loneliness: People with emotional problems tend to find refuge in drugs. They see drugs as an escape route to forgetting their emotional trauma.

iii. Criminal Intention: People who want to commit crimes may take drugs to make them carry out their illegal acts boldly.

iv. Poverty: Due to poverty, some people resort to self-medication because they cannot afford proper medical care.

v. Decadence in Hospitals: Some people resort to self-medication because of the high level of insensitivity exhibited in public hospitals.

vi. Peer group Influence: When friends encourage or influence one another to abuse drugs.

vii. Poor Parental care and Poor Upbringing: Parents do not care enough to monitor their children’s activities to guide them in the proper way.

viii. Bad Influences in the Home: Some children abuse drugs because they see their parents and elders around them abusing drugs.
