What is Packaging?
Packaging is a process of enclosing and protecting agricultural products, for distribution, storage, sales, transportation, effective handling, and marketing.
Packaging plays a significant role in preventing agricultural products from contamination and spoilage and also increases the quality of agricultural products.
History has it that men and women of old times had been keeping and packaging agricultural products, either for marketing or for preservation, for long periods of time.
Some such methods are the:
- Use of animal skin to package wine in Israel.
- Use of local thread to package vegetables.
- Use of calabash to package palm wine in West Africa.
- Use of local baskets and leaves to package kola nuts.
