- Classes of Wood Joints
Wood parts must be joined together in order to to produce furniture articles. The parts that join wood are referred to as joints.
Understanding the various types of wood joints is fundamental. Joints determine the strength, flexibility, and appearance of woodwork projects.
Wood joints are grouped into three classes, namely:
1. Box Joints or Angle Joints.
2. Framing Joints.
3. Widening Joints.
1. Box Joints:
Box joints are often used to connect two pieces of wood at 90 degrees (°). They include butt and dovetail joints.
a. Butt Joints: These are joints used in the construction of boxes, window frames, roofing and cabinet products, door frames, tables and chairs.
