Modesty: Modesty is the state of living within one’s income, without spending extravagantly.

In business, modesty involves doing things moderately and within acceptable norms.

To “live within your means” means that what you spend each month is less than or at least equal to the amount of money you bring in each month.

Attributes of Modesty:

The following are some of the attributes of modesty:

1. Simplicity:  Modest people are simple in their way of doing things.

2. Living within one’s means: Modest people don’t spend more than what comes in.

3. Contentment: Modest people are content with what they have.

4. Long Term Planning: Modest people think long term, not short term.

5. Non-Materialistic: Modest people are not concerned with material possessions but see the beauty in everything around them.

6. Humility: A modest person does not flaunt their accomplishments, wealth or anything else they may have.

Effects of Living Modestly:

The effects of modesty include the following;

1. A modest person will be happy with the achievement of others, instead of being too proud about theirs.

2. A modest person will avoid unnecessary spending, extravagance and wastage.

3. A modest person will be able to save more and have more to spend during tough times.

4. Being modest reduces the temptation to engage in criminal, corrupt, and fraudulent activities in order to satisfy one’s wants.

5. It enables one to be prudent in spending by avoiding extravagance and wastage.

6. Modesty enables one to have self-control, especially for things that are over their budget.
