The Martyrdom of James (Acts 12: 1-3)

  • James the apostle was the brother of John, the sons of Zebedee.

  • He was among the first four disciples to be called by Jesus.

  • Being very active in the early church, the disciples hated him for his progress towards the growth of the church.

  • The hatred was to the extent of them wanting to kill him.

  • Herod Agrippa I, was in rule then, not loved by the Jews, but in order to please the Jews, He killed James to seek their support and acceptance.
