Faith and Works (James 1: 22 -27):

Here, James is speaking to us as Christians, he lets us know we are not just to listen (or nowadays read about) what God says and what His gospel is but we are also supposed to do what it says. When we know what the word of God says but refuse to practice it in our lives, we are led to deception. We end up also deceiving ourselves and our religion becomes worthless.

He says a person who obeys the perfect commandments God has given us (as Christians) will be blessed in the things they do. James lets us know that a person’s religion is useless when they cannot control their tongue. In contrast, a person’s religion is pure before God when they visit orphans and widows in their time of trouble, keep away from worldly sins and maintain a pure heart.

Definition of Faith: The Bible’s definition of faith, according to Hebrews 11 verse 1 (NIV) is “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see”. This is to say, faith is the belief in something we hope for whose evidence we have not yet seen.
