A file is a collection of related records. A field is an item of data within a record. A record is a collection of fields in a database. DBMS means Database Management System while DBA means Database Administrator.

DBMS is an application that controls the data in the database. Examples of DBMS are DBASE, RBASE, Access, DataCOM, DB2, Fox pro, Sybase, Oracle, Paradox, SQL Server etc.

Definition of Microsoft Access:

Microsoft Access is a database software package. A database is an organized collection of records. Telephone and address books are examples of paper databases. With Access, you can create a computerized database. For example, you can use Access to organize the students who attend a school, the courses they take, and the instructors who teach them. After you create an Access database, you can search it, manipulate it, and extract information from it. This Lesson will teach you how to create a database.
