Tortoise, the Trickster:
All the animals in the bush knew the tortoise to be a dirty trickster. He had got many of them into trouble in the past. For a long time, they tried to catch and deal with him but they couldn’t. At last, they devised a trick to catch the trickster. They invited him to become their king in place of the lion. They constructed an iron prison in which to put the tortoise. They got the king of the snails to bring him on his rounded back. The trick worked. The snail asked the tortoise to ride on his back to his new palace. He agreed. He proudly mounted the snail. He entered his ‘palace’ and the animals locked him in with a padlock. Now a prisoner, the tortoise could not trick the animals any longer.
Evaluation:
Exercise I and 2 page 69 – 70.

2. Do you know another story in which the tortoise is a character? Tell the class the story.
