Topic Content:
- Finding Scale Factor
To find a scale factor of an enlargement, you require two corresponding sides.
The scale factor of an enlargement is the ratio of the length of a side on a shape to the corresponding length on the other shape.
Scale factor = \( \frac{length\:on\:enlargement}{corresponding\:length\:on\:original} \)
- Scale factor bigger than 1 → it is an enlargement
- Scale factor smaller than 1 → it is a reduction
Example 5.2.1:
If triangles ABC and XYZ are similar find the scale factor.
If triangles ABC and XYZ are similar then:
\( \frac{AB}{XY} = \frac{BC}{YZ} = \frac{AC}{XZ} \)Or
\( \frac{XY}{AB} = \frac{YZ}{BC} = \frac{XZ}{AC} \)
